Årbakka Handelsstad og Årbakkavollen
Årbakka handelsstad is an old trade post by the sea, with a classic general store from 1898. The old post has a sheltered and quiet location, with spectacular view of the Onarhiemsfjord and the mountains of Kvinnherad.
Just above the trading post lies Årbakkavollen, an ancient monument from the older Iron Age (0-550 AD) with the remains of 20 burial mounds and at least 6 menhirs (standing stones).
Information sign at the car park, free parking and entrance. Guest quay if you arrive by boat.
Myrvold farm
Farm visits, food, and experiences on Huglo – just a short, free ferry ride from Tysnes.
At Myrvold Farm, Lillian and Morten Anthonessen welcome guests looking for something a little out of the ordinary – whether it’s for a meal, an overnight stay, or to get up close with animals and nature. The farm is home to both traditional livestock and more exotic residents, such as emus, iguanas, and tortoises.
In the pizzeria, they use their own cheeses made from milk produced by the cows you can see grazing in the fields, and in the farm café you can enjoy freshly baked buns, carrot cake, ice cream, or waffles topped with homemade sour cream and jam.
Make your way to Huglo and be surprised by everything this unique farm has to offer. Interested in staying overnight? Visit their website for more information.
E H Vaage landhandleri, bageri og dampskibsexpedition
Chocolate factory, restaurant and local food shop. Today, this old trading post feels like a living museum, where you can experience what a rural shop and meeting place might have been like 100 years ago.
In 1895, Engelaus H. Vaage took over the trading post from his father at Eie in Uggdal. After marrying into wealth, he built the shop where it still stands today in 1902. It was later run by his son, Ole Vaage, until it closed in 1987. In recent years, Haaheim Gaard has restored the site and transformed it into their “window to the sea.” Today, it is also home to Haaheim Sjokolade, where handcrafted chocolates are produced and sold.
Chairs and tables by the sea makes for a wonderful stay by the lovely bay in Uggdal. Relax and enjoy a memory from a bygone era!

The pyrite mine in Selvågen
Not far from Hodnanes ferry quay, in the direction of Onarheim, you can explore a real mine located just off the road. The tunnel extends approximately 140 metres into the mountain, and at the far end it splits into two side passages, each about 5–6 metres long.
The mine is completely safe to walk through, but waterproof shoes are recommended. Don’t forget a flashlight and a sense of adventure.
When you are at the turn-off for Hodnanesvegen 252–254, you’ll find the mine on the opposite side of the road. Map
HERE. There is also a small grassy area with space for 1–2 cars. An information board is located at the mine entrance.
The marble mine at Seløya
One of the most spectacular marble mines in Sunnhordland, where a layer of marble has been excavated in an underground mine, probably dating back to the 17th century. There are several entrances to the mine, and you will find it very spectacular to stand inside and look out towards the sea.
Access by boat. Seløya lies between Flornes and Ånuglo, south-east of Onarheim.
The lime kiln in Flakkavågen
The bedrock on the eastern side of Tysnes is rich in limestone. This has been exploited for lime burning for several hundred years and provided farms in the area with an important supplementary source of income until around 1900. The finished lime was shipped, among other places, to Bergen and used in building construction.
The lime kiln at Flakka was restored in 1992 by the Tysnes Cultural Heritage Association (Tysnes kulturminnelag) in cooperation with Tysnes Municipality.
The kiln is located by Flakkavågen, approximately 2 km south of Onarheim. Parking and an information board can be found by the main road. Note: some overgrown vegetation in the area.
WWII memorial on Reksteren
During the war, two German forts were built on Reksteren, one in the south - at Flygansvær - and one in the north, at Kaldafoss.
The fort at Flygansvær is relatively large and well preserved. An information board has been set up at the fort with a map of the facility.
At Kaldafoss, a memorial was erected in 2014 in memory of three British airmen who were shot down in 1941.
