Tysnes on a bike

Tysnes is well suited for great experiences on the bike. Look for a random destination on the map, or perhaps one of the tours below.

Våge – Uggdal – Onarheim – Lunde – Våge 43.5 km.

On this trip around the island, you will get a very varied ride, through both undeveloped areas and beautiful cultural landscapes. Large parts of the tour go along the Onarheimsfjorden/Hardangerfjorden, with a view to Kvinnheradsfjella and with Folgefonna in the background.

Våge – Flatråker watercourse – Våge 31 km

The cycle tour to Flatråkervassdraget starts in Våge and goes through forested areas and past sparkling water. Every bend and every plain tempts you to stop to take in the beautiful views and the calm. Around the Nordbustadvatnet you have the road almost completely to yourself.

Paddling

The beautiful lakes at Flatråker and Onarheim, and the Bårdsundet, Godøysund and Ånuglo - yes, in short, around the whole of Tysnes - you will find idyllic areas for paddling, wildlife experiences and recreation.

Golf

Tysnes golf club is beautifully located in the Dalen valley at one of the many starting points for tours in the Tysnes mountains, and close to Haaheim Gaard. Here it is possible to play golf both for beginners and more experienced players.

The golf club has an indoor simulator. In other words, the weather is no obstacle if you want to play golf in Tysnes.

Tysnes Fyrstove

Tysnes Fyrstove is a jewel in the Våge harbour - a great sauna with space for 8-10 people. Perfect for groups of friends, stag parties, etc. You'll be sweaty and happy here, regardless of the season. The view is lovely, and the distance to the sea short, only 60 centimetres! There is a bathing jetty with a diving tower right outside the sauna.

You can book on Tysnes Fyrstove's website. The sauna will be hot and steamy when you arrive, and we recomend having a meal at the nearby Mandelhuset either before or after your sauna experience.

Putball

The relatively new sport of putball has come to Nesse Gard. It is a bit like golf, but use a football and your legs instead of clubs. The goal is to kick the ball into the holes with the fewest possible kicks. The nine holes in the area have a varying degree of difficulty, some will be suitable for beginners, others will have obstacles in their way. In any case, the game is open to everyone, sporty or not, old and young. You borrow all the necessary equipment on the spot, and payment is made via Vipps (NOK 100 for adults, NOK 50 for children over 6).

The track is usually open on Saturdays and Sundays, but during the summer holidays it is open every day. If someone wants to rent the whole track, that is also possible. Get in touch via the Facebook page or on 97933559.

Directions: Turn off towards Neshamn at Søreidsvågen, and follow the road until you reach an orange sign that says "Welcome to...")

Pumptrack

There are two pumptrack courses in Tysnes; one in Våge and one in Lunde. These are great fun both for locals and visitors.

In Lunde the pumptrack course is situated by the local grocery store Bunnpris. There are also a mini pitch and some benches and tables in the area. A great place to eat a packed lunch or an ice cream from the shop.

In Våge the pumptrack course is situated by the local school in Gjerstad along with a large playground open for the public. There is also a mini pitch at the school, a football field and other facilities for outdoor fun. The school is within walking distance from the Våge harbour.

Sailing

Båtlaget Njord/Tysnes owns the boathouse Njordstø in Våge with associated quay facilities.

The team has active sailing and padling groups, and you are welcome to get in touch if you want to try your hand at this sport.

In August 2023, Njord/Tysnes will host and organize the national competition Oselvar-NM.

Tufteparken in Peralio

Outdoor workout court where you use your own body weight on various equipment, whilst enjoying a lovely view of the fjord. Tufteparken is within walking distance of Våge, and is free for everyone to use.

From Våge, you follow Teiglandsvegen for a few hundred metres, and then turn off to the right down Peralivegen. You will see the Tuftepark on the right close to the sea front.

Sandvolleyball

Tysnes has three sand volleyball courts that you can freely use:

1. Apalvika in Lunde (pictured)

2. Kjevikjo in Uggdal

3. Reiso, at Njardar's grass football field

Remember to bring your own ball!

Onarheimsvatnet

Canoeing - rowing boat - fishing - swimming

At Onarheimsvatnet there is a nice activity area that the landowner has made available to people who enjoy the outdoors. Here you can hire pedal boats, rowing boats and canoes, and you can fish for trout and char. Fishing is free in the lake, and if you wish to set out a net, this can be borrowed from the landowner. There are also benches and barbecues here, and not least a spacious lavvo with an open fireplace.

Onarheimsvatnet is about 17 minutes (by car) from the centre of Våge, and only a couple of minutes from Onarheim. Good parking nearby. Remember to bring a life jacket and possibly a fishing rod. Maybe you will bring your tent too?

The forest of play at Nesse Gard

At Neshamn it is perfect to take the children on a journey of discovery and play. There is a lot to look at and do here, especially for the little ones.

Along the "Hakkebakkestien" nature trail, you will meet, among other things, Claus Climbermouse and Morten Woodmouse - nicely painted on wooden boards. They are characters from a popular norwegian play for children "Claus Climbermouse and the other animals in the Huckybucky forest"  by Thorbjørn Egner. The play forest also offers a lavvo, a Viking ship, a playhouse, many different slides, a balance line, a lookout tower, etc. At the outside barn you can borrow fire pans and firewood. There are also cashmere goats in the area that you can pet and feed.

The way there: At Søreidsvågen, follow the signs for Neshamn. After about 6 kilometres, just before the quay, you turn up to the right at a sign that says "Welcome to the Hakkebakkestien". Continue upwards, past the colorful barn that you will see on your left.

Tysnes winter bathing

"Tysnes winter bathers" is the group for those who like to challenge themselves, and for those who are not afraid of single-digit temperatures in the sea.

From late autumn to Easter, the group meets on the first Saturday of the month at 12 o'clock for a refreshing dip from the bathing pier in the Våge harbour. After the bath, people gather around a table inside Mandelhuset, where they get something delicous and hot to regain their warmth.

The group is open to everyone, feel free to bring a friend!
