Activities

No matter what you are interested in, you are bound to find something you like in Tysnes.

Saunas by the sea

The sauna trend has definitely reached Tysnes, and you can now choose between three different sauna experiences:

Våge: Located like a jewel in the guest harbour, Tysnes Fyrstove is a beautiful sauna with space for 8–10 people. Perfect for groups of friends, bachelor/bachelorette parties, and other gatherings. A swimming pier with a diving tower is located just outside the sauna. Read more HERE.

Uggdal: E.H. Vaage Damp & Bad is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a relaxing time by the sea. Warm up in the sauna, take a refreshing dip in the fjord, and relax in the jacuzzi. If you would like to make the experience even more special, a range of optional extras is available. Read more HERE.

Onarheim: Enjoy a free, self-service sauna at Alsaker Brygge. You'll find it integrated into the large diving tower at OnarHamn marina. No advance booking is required, and instructions are available on site.

Outdoor activity area in Uggdal

In 2025, a brand-new activity park was established by the day-trip cabin Miklastofa in Uggdal. Here, you can challenge your strength, balance, and more – there's something for all ages! The activity park is completely free to use.

Other facilities in the area around the day-trip cabin include: a swimming dock, restrooms, benches, a lean-to shelter and a fire pit. Inside the cabin, you’ll find a cozy loft, books, benches, and a wood stove – perfect for enjoying your packed lunch sheltered from wind and weather.

Tysnes on a bike

Tysnes is well suited for great experiences on the bike. Look for a random destination on the map, or perhaps one of the tours below.

Våge – Uggdal – Onarheim – Lunde – Våge 43.5 km.

On this trip around the island, you will get a very varied ride, through both undeveloped areas and beautiful cultural landscapes. Large parts of the tour go along the Onarheimsfjorden/Hardangerfjorden, with a view to Kvinnheradsfjella and with Folgefonna in the background.

Våge – Flatråker watercourse – Våge 31 km

The cycle tour to Flatråkervassdraget starts in Våge and goes through forested areas and past sparkling water. Every bend and every plain tempts you to stop to take in the beautiful views and the calm. Around the Nordbustadvatnet you have the road almost completely to yourself.

Paddling

The beautiful lakes at Flatråker and Onarheim, and the Bårdsundet, Godøysund and Ånuglo - yes, in short, around the whole of Tysnes - you will find idyllic areas for paddling, wildlife experiences and recreation.

Golf

The golf club has an indoor simulator. In other words, the weather is no obstacle if you want to play golf in Tysnes.

Onarheimsvatnet

Canoeing - rowing boat - fishing - swimming

At Onarheimsvatnet there is a nice activity area that the landowner has made available to people who enjoy the outdoors. Here you can hire rowing boats and canoes, and you can fish for trout and char. Fishing is free in the lake, and if you wish to set out a net, this can be borrowed from the landowner. There are also benches and barbecues here, and not least a spacious lavvo with an open fireplace.

Onarheimsvatnet is about 17 minutes (by car) from the centre of Våge, and only a couple of minutes from Onarheim. Good parking nearby. Remember to bring a life jacket and possibly a fishing rod. Maybe you will bring your tent too?

Tysnes winter bathing

"Tysnes winter bathers" is the group for those who like to challenge themselves, and for those who are not afraid of single-digit temperatures in the sea.

From late autumn to Easter, the group meets on the first Saturday of the month at 12 o'clock for a refreshing dip from the bathing pier in the Våge harbour. After the bath, people gather around a table inside Mandelhuset, where they get something delicous and hot to regain their warmth.

The group is open to everyone, feel free to bring a friend!
