Beaches

In Tysnes there is a small bay for everyone. Her is a list of the public beaches and some other gems on our beautiful island.


Kjevika

Idyllic and beautiful bay with shallow warm water. The area has a sand volleyball court, a swimming ramp for the disabled, benches and a basic outside toilet.


On the grass it is perfect to have a picnic, lie down and sunbathe or set up a tent. Walking distance to Kompasset bar and restaurant.


Access: Parking on the hilltop past Optimera (signs). Then about 10 minutes to walk on a gravel road.

Klubbavika

A lovely recreational area with a view of the Onarheimsfjorden and beautiful Kvinnherad mountains. The long, shallow beach invites the whole family to both swim and play. There are benches and a basic outside toilet. The ground above the beach is well suited for camping, and the wood for hammocks.


Access: Parking at Tveit prayer house. From there it is about 500 meters to walk on a wide and level road through forest and cultural landscapes. Wheelchair and pram accessible.

Våge harbour

Bathing jetty with diving tower in the heart of the harbour in Våge. Tysnes Fyrstove is located here, and there are a small playground for children.


The sauna "Flytenaustet", the restaurant Mandelhuset, and shopping in Våge close by. Bathing houses on the quay for an easy change to swim wear.


Access: There are good opportunities for parking in the area, and if you arrive by boat you are right by the jetty.

Apalvika 

Public outdoor area in Lunde. There is a sand volleyball court/football court, play grjound, a lean-to, barbecue area, fire pit and toilet with hand washing facilities. From the beach, you can swim out to a jetty.


Access: There is parking for a few cars close to the area, below Apalvikvegen 10. You can also park at Bunnpris and walk from there (10-15 min).

Gunnarsvika

Secluded bay at the entrance to Godøysund, a short distance from Våge harbour.

There are nice rocky outcrops, a sandy bottom and a small beach that is great for children.


A basic outdoor toilet and boat mooring. Several tent pitches and good facilities for spending the night in a hammock.


Access: It is easiest to get to Gunnarsvika from the sea.

Gjerstad

Nice little sandy beach with close to the marina at Gjerstad. There is a bathing jetty not far from the shore, and benches that you can rest on.


Access: Drive down the dirt road behind Eviny's warehouse in Gjerstad, vis a vis Tysnes school. Here you come to a large car park. Then you walk out towards the mairna, and you will soon see the beach on your left.

Fluøyane

Fluøyane is an archipelago located north of Våge. The name Fluøyane is also used for the two northernmost islands in the archipelago, and on Vestre Fluøy it is great to anchor your boat and enjoy beach life. Good opportunities for tenting and a basic outdoor toilet.


Please note that Fluøyane has the status of a nature reserve to protect nesting seabirds. Betwee April 15- July 31, you must therefore stay within a restricted area  (see signs on site or look up a map from the Norwegian Environment Agency).

OnarHamn

In the OnarHamn on Onarheim you will find by far the coolest diving tower in Tysnes. From the harbour it is walking distance to OnarTun, where you can, among other things, buy soft ice cream, take a sauna or work out during Joker Onarheim's opening hours.


Access: There are good opportunities for parking in the area, if you are not arriving by boat.

Kyrkjevatnet 

Close to the day trip cabin "Miklastofa" in Uggdal, a small quay with a wheelchair ramp out to the bathing jetty has been created. This is a great area to spend a few hours on a sunny day. A short distance from the swimming area there is a lean-to, a place to light a bonfire, a basic toilet and great hiking opportunities.


Access: You can park and walk from Uggdalseidet (at the south end of the lake, see sign), at the end of Heningen (the hilltop past Optimera) or from the riding track at Myklestad. It's only about 10-15 minutes to walk to the swimming area no matter which way you go. Both Joker Uggdal and the Kompasset bar and restaurant are within walking distance of the recreation area.

Krabbapollen

A rare gem for boaters, located at Teistøy outside Lunde. A secluded and shallow  bay with a beautiful sandy bottom. Boat mooring, bathing ladder and basic outdoor toilet.


Access: From the sea

Årbakka Handelsstad

The perfect place to settle down on some beach chairs while the children swim or look for crabs and fish. A great tip is to plan your trip here when Årbakka Handelsstad is open, so you can buy waffles and ice cream in between sunbathing and swimming.


Access: Use Årbakka Handelsstad's car park. From here, it's just under a minute to walk to the sea. If you come by boat, you can moor at Årbakka handelsstad.

Pålsvika

When you start sailing towards Gripnesvågen from Bjørnafjorden, you will find this nice littel beach on the right. A lovely, unspoilt place with a small forest at the back.


Access: We recommend access from the sea, as there is no marked path to Pålsvika.

Jektevika

This is a very idyllic area in Neshamn with several beaches to choose from.


Access: Drive to the end of Neshamnvegen and park before the bridge.To not disturb the locals please take this route: Walk over the bridge. Rikght acorss the bridge you will see a small white house with post boxes on the wall. Walk up the hill behind this house and you will have another white house on your right. At the top of the hill, turn right down a grassy field. You will see a blue cabin on the right. Continue down the field and soon you will be in paradise.

Gåsholmane

Outside Skorpo and Flornes lies a small oasis of islets and shoals, where sandy bottoms and shallow areas invite to swimming and recreation.


Access: By boat.
